affiliated with St. Francis Cabrini and Jean Gordon Elementary schools, had a notable 14 members achieve the organizations highest rank, that of Eagle Scout. To earn the status, a scout must complete community service projects, earn 21 merit badges and serve in leadership positions. Projects completed by the troops Eagle Scouts benefited such groups as the Louisiana Nature Center and a homeless mission.

a former Baton Rougean, pulled off an unprecedented "double-double" last week when he received Best Picture and Best Director Academy Award nominations for two separate films: Erin Brockovich and Traffic. The Oscars will be televised live on March 25.
State District Judge Donald Johnson
of Baton Rouge owes the state more than $50,000 in delinquent taxes, according to the Louisiana Department of Revenue. The agencys Web site lists Johnson as the only sitting public official among a roster of 105 delinquent taxpayers, including former U.S. Rep. Richard Tonry of Chalmette. Agency officials say they place the names on the list as a shame tactic after exhausting other means of collecting the taxes.
The Business Affairs Research Program,
a political action committee formed by Louisiana beer lobby, has been fined $10,000 by the state Ethics Board for evading state campaign finance laws. The group donated about $200,000 to state lawmakers from 1997 to 2000 but never reported the contributions until last October, according to the board.
