DINING

La Carreta

108 N.W. Railroad Ave., Hammond, 419-9990;

1200 W. Causeway, Mandeville, 727-7212

You’ll get more than rice and refried beans at this Mexican cocina, and you can eat outside. One favorite is the chili rellenos: whole poblano chilies stuffed with cheese and a choice of beef, chicken or shrimp, then batter-fried and served with ranchero sauce and guacamole salad. For those with a taste for the hot, ask for a side order of chilies toreados (grilled jalapenos), but make sure you order an icy margarita for the aftermath. Major cards accepted. Lunch and dinner daily.

Nuvolari’s

Caesar or house salads are $2 with a pasta entrée. Major cards accepted. Dinner nightly.

Sutherlin’s ... fine dining

1705 Hwy. 190, Mandeville, 727-3463

The ambience is romantic at this taste of old New Orleans. But what you’ll really fall in love with is the cuisine, such as mouth-watering sauteed veal scallops served with asparagus, crabmeat and mushrooms drizzled with hollandaise sauce. Or the Triple Tenderloin Tchefuncte: three tournadoes layered over fried eggplant with hollandaise, bearnaise and espanole sauce choices, served with a salad. Major cards and checks accepted. Lunch and dinner Tuesday through Friday, dinner Saturday and brunch Sunday.

Trey Yuen

600 N. Causeway, Mandeville, 985-626-4476;
