Prometheus Award recipients
were honored last week by the NO/AIDS Task Force for their work to battle HIV and AIDS in New Orleans and to improve services for patients. This year’s recipients are Dr. Milton Seiler for health care, Jimmy Fahrenholtz for legal services, Beth Scalco for advocacy, JoAnn Moinet for volunteerism, Dimitre Blutcher for education, and Rip and Marsha Naquin-Delain for media.

Tipitina’s
is giving the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council a check for $20,775 at City Hall this Thursday, June 7. Tipitina’s raised the funds during "Injuns a-Comin’," its April 30 benefit concert for the Mardi Gras Indian organization.

Fernand L. Laudumiey and Dennis S. Mann,
two New Orleans lawyers who admitted obstructing a federal insurance fraud probe, were given stiff fines, probation, community service and, for Laudumiey, incarceration in a halfway house. They were convicted of illegally hiring "runners" to besiege emergency rooms and accident scenes to drum up business, and urging the runners to lie to a grand jury.

Thibodaux Housing Authority residents
let mob mentality rule when 12 to 15 men, women and juveniles chased and beat a man they suspected of stealing from a resident. Frank Byonne of Natchitoches was visiting the housing authority complex last week when a woman accused him of breaking into her unit. Within minutes, the crowd chased Byonne down the street and attacked him. He was hospitalized.
