The Courage to Encourage

In a way, I think Ralph was right on with that one. It’s easy to say, “Wow, I wish I had someone to keep me on track, to make sure I’m living up to my potential, to keep me on my toes.”

But in reality, if you did have such a person in your life — say it’s your mother or your husband or your wife or your neighbor — you’d probably end up resenting them for “nagging” you or avoiding them just to get a little peace and indulge in a little non-creative loafing. So I think it’s safe to assume that Emerson’s “someone” is really a hypothetical entity. But that was then.

Probing the Pumps

Holiday Fantasies

My personal "official holiday shopping season" has commenced. I know people are already complaining about the early retail shopping push which starts in August these days, but there is one event that gets me giddy about the giving season.

That symbolic occurrence is the annual "Neiman Marcus Christmas Book." Every year when the book is released and the fabulous "Fantasy Gifts" are published, I eagerly gear up for garland and mistletoe. This year's book is the 100th year anniversary and starts with a beautiful photo spread of fashions artistically representing the past century.

Earn It

Both LSU and the Saints earned it this weekend, although both teams did it in extremely different ways. LSU came back from a 10 point 4th quarter deficit to beat Florida 28-24 in what was, in my opinion, the best damn football game I've ever seen. Follow that up with the Saints performance on Sunday afternoon, which was the complete opposite.
