Rebuilding Together New Orleans + America's oil and natural gas industry = the Energy Efficient Homes Initiative

Posted by on Thu, Oct 11, 2007 at 7:43 PM

Rebuilding Together's New Orleans branch, a volunteer home rehabilitation organization, is partnering with the American Petroleum Institute, the primary trade association for the oil and natural gas industry in the US, to introduce energy efficient renovations into home restoration and

remodeling projects for low-income residents. The Initiative's program allows homeowners to reduce their energy consumption by as much as 30 percent, a program that saves both money and natural resources in the long run.

The Initiative incorporates energy-saving devices like light fixtures that use compact fluorescent bulbs, energy efficient windows, and a HVAC heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. Two local residents have been selected by the Initiative to have their homes rebuilt with these energy efficient plans in mid October. Over 270,000 volunteers from Rebuilding Together restore more than 10,000 homes per year nationwide.
