Wardell Quezergue's Free Holiday Show

Legendary composer Wardell "The Creole Beethoven" Quezergue presents a free R&B Christmas show this Sunday (Dec. 9) at the Cabildo. Quezergue arranged music for some of New Orleans best known performers, including Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Aaron Neville and Dr. John. He'll lead a 10-piece band that includes his son Brian Quezergue. The performance is supported by the Louisiana State Museum, Renew Our Music and MK Charities (which organizes the Ponderosa Stomp - an annual spring showcase of unsung musical talents including legends of R&B and early rock and roll.) The show goes from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., Dec. 9 at the Cabildo, 701 Chartres St.

Subversive re-fitting of iconic female images from the 1930s, 40s and 50s -- on everything from napkins and table settings to journals and t-shirts -- seem to be popping up more frequently these days as pastiche gains popularity and a reappropriation of the retro is all the rage. Any of you who, at first glance, read that as crotch-eting, well, you’re clearly behind in your Indie trends.
