Kids Come First

Families living in or nearVillage de l’Est in eastern New Orleans finally have a pediatric clinic nearbyto take care of their youngsters’ health-care needs.


Children’s Hospital and MaryQueen of Vietnam Community Development Corp., which serves the Village l’Estcommunity, held a grand opening July 14 for Kid’s First New Orleans East (14401Chef Menteur Hwy., 662-0644), the first children’s clinic to open in that areasince Hurricane Katrina.


The 2,394-square-footfacility has four exam rooms and will provide preventative care, diagnosis andtreatment of illnesses and injuries, vision and hearing screenings andimmunizations. It also will offer counseling for behavioral, social andphysical development problems.


Dr. Tami Hinz will head theclinic, and there will be a bilingual office manager to help Hinz communicatewith patients and their parents, who mostly are Vietnamese.


The eastern New Orleansclinic is the fifth Children’s Hospital Medical Practice Corporation has openedto bring healthcare to young patients, including those in medically underservedareas.
