Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Posted By on Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 2:12 PM

Councilmember-at-large Arnie Fielkow will send a lucky child to Chicago to attend a baseball game July 26 between the Chicago Cubs and the Florida Marlins at Wrigley Field.

The child will be selected from among 850 summer campers from New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) who will attend the game courtesy of NORD, Fielkow, the Zephyrs and WWL-87OAM. As part of the field trip the children will receive free tickets to watch the Zephyrs take on the Albuquerque Isotopes, lunch, a commemorative T-shirt and a chance to take part in pre-game activities. They also will be given a tour of the Zephyrs facility and will participate in on-field drills and exercises.

“We are very excited to welcome the kids to Zephyr Field and give them a chance to interact with our players and coaches,” Zephyrs Executive Director & COO Ron Maestri says. “The Zephyrs and New York Mets have always been committed to providing affordable family entertainment, particularly for young people.”

During the fifth inning, one of the campers will win the trip to Chicago. Fielkow will pay all travel expenses for the child and a guardian and two tickets to Cubs game.

The children who will attend the Zephyrs game on Monday participate in NORD-registered baseball, softball and summer camp programs.
