Just more crossdressing and rudeness…

I highly recommend Running With Scissors’ A Place in the Sun at Le Chat among this week’s theater options. But if its crossdressing, sarcasm and laughs at the misfortunes of others are too much for you, the PG-13 option this weekend is Twelth Night at the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane. A festival of mistaken identity, Twelfth Night features shipwrecked fraternal twins who both fall in love on the strange island. Viola’s affairs are complicated by her dressing as a man and attracting a woman at the same time that she's dressed as a man and attracted to one. But much of the play’s fun comes at the expense of the steward Malvolio, who is humiliated for sport – first tricked into believing that someone is in love with him, and then convinced to make an ostentatious display of his reciprocal interest. It’s rude and funny and surely kept the Globe packed and entertained. This production stars the high school students studing theater at the festival. There are three shows left: 7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., July 25-26, and a Saturday matinee at 1:30 p.m. All at Lupin Theater at Tulane.
