That explanation followed this exchange between Drew and ABC 26's Adam Norris in which they seemingly mixed up their biblical mythology.
Norris: Does the goatee stay for the foreseeable future? Do you shave it off after you achieve something? What's going on with that?
Brees: Like Samson or something?

Last I checked, Samson didn't shave off his hair when he achieved something and, considering that he drew his strength from his locks, he wouldn't want to. If Brees thinks he's drawing strength from his hair, he shouldn't think about getting rid of it either. Also, seeing as how Brees' wife likes the facial hair, there's little chance she'll pull a Delilah and shave it off in his sleep.
