Livestock animals dragged by chains hyperextending their legs behind bobcat tractors. Shoved and stabbed by forklifts. Shocked repeatedly. Sprayed with high-pressure hoses to simulate drowning. Calves kicked repeatedly in the head. Calves with broken legs. Downed cattle, animals too weak, sick and injured to stand up, beaten and shocked repeatedly...
This is a list of some of the things the Humane Society of the United States has reported in their undercover investigation of animal abuses in slaughterhouses and livestock farms around the country. To read more about their reports and findings on this issue click here. Though many Human Society satellites around the country operate adoption centers, most people don't know that they are primarily certified, licensed private investigators. According to HSUS,
"The USDA is finally considering closing a loophole in federal slaughter regulations that hurts downed cattle. If USDA's proposal moves forward, cattle who are too sick or injured even to stand or walk will no longer be slaughtered for human food.?
To allow the public to show additional support for the ban, HSUS has set up a convenient online form to allow anyone to submit a letter supporting the push to further protect injured and abused livestock.

It is highly unlikely that a society that condones partial birth abortions and doesn't require medical assistance for abortion survivors will care much about how their steaks, burgers and briskets are prepared.
I'm not sure I understand your point. In my experience pro-choice supporters tend to care more about the liberties and freedom of human beings and animals than their conservative opponents do.
"will no longer be slaughtered for human food.? Am I the only one who both noticed this line and has read Fast Food Nation?
My sister who lives in Europe voices concern for mistreated suspected terrorists and for the world's opinion of the U.S. She is strongly pro-choice, yet proudly owns a fur coat, and is not concerned with the mistreatment of animals meant for either consumption or for the garment industry. I would have thought that a person who considered themselves compassionate would have compassion for all fellow creatures.
Interestingly (to get away from the weird abortion thread) I just went to dinner with a friend here in New york who has decided to only eat humanely killed meat. That means she'll cook kosher or organic meats at home, and mostly eat vegetarian when out. So... that's fine in NYC, which is full of extremely specific businesses, but does anyone know of restaurants in the NO who follow those guidelines?
