The chant started during pre-game introductions. All the other players offensive players had been announced and one would've thought the intros were over. But then came the second starting running back. From Ole Miss, number 26, Deeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccceee McAaaaaaaalllllllliiiisssssssttttteeerrrrrrrrr!

All those negative feelings that came from watching Deuce on the sidelines as his team failed to make crucial 3rd-down conversions against the Redskins two weeks ago and the Broncos last week just melted away with every hard run up the gut yesterday.

He was finding holes where they came and established a run game for the Saints that they had lacked in their previous two losses. OK, so it wasn't exactly a punishing run game — just 104 yards between four rushers — but it was enough to keep the 49ers from cheating in the secondary and enough to help Drew Brees to throw for 363 yards and 3 touchdowns.  And make no mistake, Brees would not have had Lance Moore and Robert Meachem open on those two long touchdowns (33 and 47 yards, respectively) if it wasn't for Deuce's steady 3.7 yards-per-carry.

And of course, there was that touchdown. Deuce, having been denied on the previous play on a straight run up the gut, finished the Saints fourth-quarter scoring drive with a leap over goal line that sounded like a bomb when he landed.

"I still have it," Deuce said of the score. "I can still get in the air a little bit."

Indeed, Deuce still has "it". "It" being the support from the fans and his teammates. "It" being a spark to the running game that this team has desperately since he first went down with his knee injury last year. "It" is the that low sound that I can assure you is not boos coming from Saints fans. No, it's just the sound when the Deuce busts loose.
