Joseph Boyden, a local author and Writer-In-Residence at the University of New Orleans, has won the 15th annual Scotiabank Giller Prize for his novel Through Black Spruce, which tells the story of contemporary aboriginal family and what happens when of is its members goes missing. The honor comes with $50,000 in prize money, and Boyden accepted the award Tuesday night at a televised dinner in Toronto.
Boyden has two other books: Born with a Tooth, a collection of short stories; and the novel, Three Day Road. He is married Amanda Boyden, an acclaimed novelist in her own right, who recently penned Babylon Rising, a novel set in New Orleans before the storm.
