What a Bargain!

Posted by David Winkler-Schmit on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 9:41 PM

In case you thought the Mayor’s proposed 2009 City Budget, at the bargain-basement operating price of a $500,033,821, was overblown and overpriced, it’s because you don’t understand how a well-oiled machine operates. You can’t pay AMC Pacer prices and expect a Mercedes.

As the pie chart below clearly shows, taken from the proposed City of New Orleans 2009 Budget, taxpayers have come to expect luxury and performance in their bureaucracy, aka "High Performing Government," and they don’t mind paying $196,513,291 for it.

Well, thank God we won't be paying for "low-performing government." That would be a doggone shame.

I admit I assumed this was a spoof pie chart until I looked it up in the city budget from that link you provided and saw it right there on pg. 9. Now I know it's just a real life indicator of a spoof city government.

Is the Sanitation Department part of the "high performing government"? Just curious.
