Playing for Change

If you haven’t seen this short documentary yet, check it out. It’s a wonderfully soulful, collaboration of a number of street musicians throughout the world performing the classic “Stand By Me.” Producer Mark Johnson created the film and traveled to various cities worldwide filming the artists singing and playing Ben E. King’s song, which was originally released in 1961, and eventually became the 121st song in Rolling Stone magazine’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

The documentary is part of “Playing For Change,” which describes itself as, “a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music.” Recently, Bill Moyers interviewed Johnson, and , yes, one of the cities is New Orleans, featuring Grandpa Elliot, Washboard Chaz and Robert Luti.
