After a brief but highly publicized courtship Gregg Williams was officially named the New Orleans Saints' defensive coordinator last Thursday. While skeptics and jaded Saints fans are asking what's so great about Williams the stern but popular coach is set to put his new defense in attack mode. But the excitement surrounding Williams' inauguration will undoubtedly be short lived. Williams and the Saints will already have to contend with distractions like the arrest of Saints linebacker Johnathan Vilma and the gross mismanagement of New Orleans' salary-cap which will in turn affect the Saints ability to attract prospective free agents.
After the Cleveland Cavaliers frustrated Chris Paul and his Hornets, New Orleans bounced back with a 91-85 victory against the Detroit Pistons. Paul lead the Hornets past the slumping Pistons with 23 points and 14 assists. But the up and dowm Hornets must take advantage of their upcoming schedule- a schedule that features three teams that are curently below .500 and a Philadelphia team that at 20-20 has lost as many games as they've won. Lets face it. This is the right time for New Orleans to solidify a spot among the best in the west because outside of the top two teams, the west is wide open.
