Coming up in The Gambit: Adios, Carlos and hello Krewe du Vieux Edition

Posted By on Sat, Feb 7, 2009 at 11:17 PM

Getting ready to head out to the French Quarter and Faubourg Marigny for Krewe du Vieux tonight (be sure to check the new route on the group's Web site). Meanwhile, coming up this week in The Gambit:

• Is heavy metal dead? Hardly, says Alison Fensterstock, who in our cover story takes a look at some of New Orleans' metallic guitar heroes and wonders what a headbanger has to do to get some respect in a jazz town....

• Guest editorialist Ethan Brown crunches the crime numbers provided by the NOPD, compares arrest records to those of other cities, and comes up with some possible solutions....

• In The State of the State, Jeremy Alford takes a look at Gov. Bobby Jindal's travel schedule -- Gov. Bobby Jindal's busy, busy travel schedule. Gosh, you'd think the guy was running for office or something....

Carnival time! We profile the krewes that will be parading this week, along with their themes and their throws...and provide tear-out pocket maps of the routes....

Noah Bonaparte Pais talks to Bryan Batt -- Orpheus royalty, Mad Men star, and, this week, cabaret entertainer at Le Chat Noir....

• ...and Ian McNulty evaluates Seoul food in Metairie.

There's more (including our guide to last-minute Valentine gifts), but there's a parade to be gotten to. If you're staying in tonight, check out Schroeder's copies of recent correspondence between Councilmember Stacy Head and NOPD Superintendent Warren Riley, which reads like, well, something out of Krewe du Vieux. But (sigh) it's real.

Have a good weekend.
