Coming up in Gambit: Easter edition

Posted By on Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 8:38 PM

April? When did it get to be April?

• In our cover story, Noah Bonaparte Pais goes on the set of the new HBO pilot Tremé, and gets the scoop on what may be the first TV series set in post-Katrina New Orleans to get it right. (Translation: this doesn't look like another K-Ville.) Noah interviewed series creator David Simon and star Wendell Pierce, as well as many of the writers who are striving for authenticity, and Cheryl Gerber got an amazing set of photographs chronicling the production....

• As the Hornets stumble into the playoffs, Alejandro de los Rios looks back at a bumpy season and analyzes how they (barely) got there....

Jeremy Alford takes a look at the upcoming legislative session in Baton Rouge and what it all could mean for the state constitution. (Equal Rights Amendment? Is it the '70s all over again?)....

• We preview next weekend's French Quarter Festival....

Ian McNulty checks out the rebuilt, renewed Charlie's Steak House, a New Orleans institution now under new ownership, but serving the same butter-sputtering plates of beef....

• ...and longtime music and feature writer Alison Fensterstock bids adieu in a column that looks back at the highs and lows of her years at Gambit. (Lil Wayne still hasn't called.) Alison is leaving for opportunities elsewhere, and while we're sorry to see her go, we're glad we'll be able to read her locally and we all wish her the best.

See you on the newsstand on Sunday, or online Monday afternoon.
