Coastal Restoration Funds Survive

Posted By on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 5:27 PM

The Louisiana House of Representatives passed HB2 this morning and preserved the $300 million in funding for coastal restoration. Several New Orleans lawmakers — including Walt Leger (D-New Orleans), Reed Henderson (D-Chalmette) and Nita Hutter (R-Chalmette) — delivered impassioned speeches on the House floor, showing their support for full coastal funding. Rep. Rogers Pope (R-Livingston) proposed an amendment to shift $45 million from the coastal restoration budget to highway projects, but the measure was soundly defeated, 66 to 16.

The coastal restoration proposed budget, along with the rest of the capital outlays budget, now heads over to the state Senate for approval.
