The downtown Covington restaurant and wine bar Etoile closed recently. It's related business, the wine store Louisiana Star, also is closed.

The restaurant was co-owned by New Orleans artist James Michalopoulos, whose artwork contributed much to the unique design and feel of the place.

Etoile served contemporary Louisiana cuisine and French bistro fare with some local updates, all in riotously colorful dining rooms. The walls were not only hung with Michalopoulas paintings, but the very atmosphere of irregular angles, repurposed New Orleans architectural elements and splashes of color seemed to put you inside a Michalopoulas painting.
