The Big Easy Foundation sponsors the Big Easy Awards for music and theater and the Tribute to the Classical Arts. Proceeds from those events and other fundraisers are distributed to local arts and education organizations via Big Easy grants. The foundation just announced grant recipients for 2009. They include:
-ArtSpot Productions for its IROC (Individuals Relating and Overcoming Conflicts) mentoring program.
-Creative Forces for health-themed educational workshops incorporating music and dance.
-Jo Cool Gospel Singer Foundation for gospel workshops in Central City.
-Cutting Edge Music Business Conference for business workshops for musicians.
-Dog & Pony Theatre Co. for a theater program at St. Michaels School.
-The Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame for its indigenous art program at Nelson and Wicker schools.
-New Orleans Ballet Association to support its partnership program with New Orleans Recreation Department.
-New Orleans Jazz Institute for musician residence program linking schools and university jazz programs.
-Southern Rep for workshop and camp programs.
