Gelato parlors are spreading pretty quickly around New Orleans, and La Divina Gelateria has a lot to do with it. The local Italian-style ice cream maker opened its third New Orleans shop this month, this time on Maple Street in the Carrollton area.

The proprietors, Katrina and Carmelo Turillo, have been busy since opening their first shop on Magazine Street in 2007. Last year, they expanded with a second shop in the French Quarter, taking over the space near Jackson Square that had long been a Häagen-Dazs franchise.

This latest expansion opened in the Maple Street storefront that had previously been the frozen yogurt shop Cherry on Top.

La Divina Gelatieria has an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients for its gelato, including milk from Smith Creamery in Washington Parish, seasonal fruit and honey. The shops also serve coffee, panini, salads and pastries.
