Each year, chefs and restaurateurs around the country take part in a benefit called Taste of the Nation, organized by Share Our Strength and billed as America's largest fund-raiser for efforts to end childhood hunger.

Once again, New Orleans will host its own version, in the form of a jazz brunch on Sunday, Aug. 2, at the Red Fish Grill.

Local restaurants volunteer to provide the spread of food for the annual event. This year's list of participants includes Red Fish Grill, Brigtsen’s and Charlie’s Seafood, Bayona, Cochon, Rio Mar and La Boca, Bourbon House, Dooky Chase Restaurant, MiLa, Ralph’s on the Park, Bacco and St. James Cheese Co. Wines, cocktails, beer and other beverages are provided as well.

Also on the agenda this year is the presentation of Share Our Strength's Fleur de Lis Award. Local food writer and former Times Picayune restaurant critic Gene Bourg has been selected for the award.

Tickets cost $75 for general admission, beginning at noon, or $125 for access to the VIP pre-party and champagne reception, which begins at 11 a.m.

Beneficiaries of this year’s event include Second Harvest of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, marketumbrella.org, and Bread for the World Louisiana.
