It's another busy weekend around New Orleans. Musicians are tuning up for Satchmo SummerFest in the French Quarter. Artists and gallery owners and retailers of linen toggery are prepping for the Whitney White Linen Night in the Warehouse District.
And in gyms across the metro area, guys who can dead lift a Mini Cooper are gearing up for Beauty and the Bench, while their female peers must be practicing the catwalk strut in heels.
It's a bench press weightlifting contest, combined with a "best bikini hard body" contest -- all part of an outdoor expo/block party on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 4413 Chastant St. in Metairie. Details are here.
Competition for each category should be fierce. The biggest lifter gets a $1,000 prize, while hard body winner gets $500. Lifters will be judged on their maximum lift, plus how many times they can lift their own bodyweight. Here's how the bikini contest goes:
The Bikini Hot Body Contest will have a competitor at a time walk on stage walk down the stage and back then off the stage. We will bring back the Top 5 and here is were the contestants will be allowed to persuade the judges on why they should be the Bikini Hot Body Winner. (Event is open to public so contestants must remain decent in character)."
According to producer Newera Productions, the contest is open "to anyone that thinks they got what it takes."
The event is free. Expect music, food and drinks, and booths from fitness-oriented sponsors.
