Byblos Owners Plan Seafood Spot on Magazine

The owners of the Byblos Middle-Eastern restaurants plan to open a new seafood restaurant on Magazine Street this fall in the space previously occupied by Semolina's Bistro Italia.

Restaurateur Hicham Khodr and his partners in 3 of a Kind Restaurant Group took over the prominent corner spot at 3226 Magazine St., just a few doors down from their Uptown Byblos location. Semolina's Bistro Italia closed last month after about three years in business.

Khodr says the new venture, tentatively called Catch, will be a neighborhood seafood restaurant serving seasonal boiled Louisiana seafood along with a full, casual seafood menu. He predicts it will be ready to open in October.

Semolina's Bistro Italia was a slightly more upscale spin-off of Semolina, the pasta-centric restaurant chain created by the local restaurant management group the Taste Buds. The same New Orleans-based group runs the Zea Rotisserie & Grill chain.

3 of a Kind Restaurant Group has been on a busy expansion spree lately. In addition to the Byblos locations, they bought the original Camellia Grill after Hurricane Katrina and have been expanding with locations in other cities. Last fall, they bought the Gumbo Shop.
