We don't get nearly enough Indian food around here, and opportunities to check out Indian music, dance, film and such are similarly scant.
So the block party being planned on the Northshore this weekend by the Mandeville restaurant India 4 U (warning! Web site opens with sitar recording!) may well prove an overload for the uninitiated.
The line of the restaurant's "Jai Ho! Celebration" includes an "extreme spicy" eating contest that is sure to bring out the hottest curries. Tom Fitzmorris will be judging that contest, and the restaurant will sell plenty of less masochistic Indian food as well.
Other highlights:
Sitar instrumentalists
Indian comedian Rasika Mathur
Bollywood-style dancing
Indian-centric turntable styles from DJ Shivvy
Local rock band Soul Vaxxination
The event begins at 5 p.m. outside the restaurant, at 1703 N. Causeway Blvd., Mandeville. Call 985-626-5657 for more details.
