Gorgeous music alert: Raleigh, N.C., folkies Bowerbirds visit New Orleans for the first time tomorrow (10 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks; read Gambits preview here), bringing acoustic guitars, an accordion, an upright bass and a reputation for silencing large rooms of blabbing big-city showgoers. The groups excellent 2007 debut Hymns For a Dark Horse seemed to earn more praise from critics, but after more than a few spins, Im preferring the quiet dropkick of July's sophomore release Upper Air (Dead Oceans) its softer, sweeter and somehow entirely more entrancing from start to finish.
