Wednesday morning news dump

Posted by Kevin Allman on Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 4:18 PM

HURRICANE BILL!: Bill now a massive Cat 4 storm deep in the Atlantic, may brush Bermuda.

AFTER CRONKITE: Don Hewitt, creator of 60 Minutes, dead at 86.

THE ROMANCE THAT DEFINED A GENERATION -- BACK ON AGAIN?: Reggie Bush and Kim Kardashian seen eating at Ruth's Chris, tabloids go nuts.

DEADSPIN ON THE SAINTS: Deadspin gives the Saints a turn in its "Why Your Team Sucks" barrel as part of its 2009 NFL preview. Apparently New Orleans is "Cajun" and the home of Justin Wilson. Whatever.

GIRLS GONE REALLY WILD: Stormy Daniels to be arraigned Sept. 3 in Tampa on her domestic-violence charge.

RACE ON THE BAYOU: Houma gets its first triathlon.

BLOOD ON THE WHITE TABLECLOTHS: First Brett Anderson, the T-P's restaurant critic, gave Scott Boswell's restaurant Stella! his highest rating. Then Gambit's Noah Bonaparte Pais objected ("Stella! may still serve the most exquisite food in New Orleans, but the city’s clear-cut top restaurant it’s not"). And now Robert Peyton of New Orleans Magazine is objecting to Noah's objection. We're hoping for a duel with grapefruit spoons.

I'm with Noah on this one. Stella is good but not great. Tabloids? Hmmm...

I still can't get past the insulting prices on Stella!'s menu. As for that Deadspin post, I think you should go a bit easier on it. Yeah there's the dumb Justin Wilson reference and they are missing a key fact about Rickey Jackson's face mask. (He started wearing it after his auto accident) But I can definitely agree with the complaints against Anne Rice and her responsibility for the plague of Twilight. And then there's this: "SHOCKEY! SHOCKEY! SHOCKEY! Oooh, loogit! It's the failed white Dennis Rodman. Hopefully, Shockey has been able to stay hydrated while in camp. Not that it will matter, given that Billy Miller will probably end up taking 80% of all snaps. Between Shockey and Reggie Bush, the Saints have quite a collection of players that are well known but not terribly good. (Fun prediction: Pierre Thomas runs for 1,300 yards and 12 TD's.)" Now that's pretty damn funny.

I HATE when people say New Orleans is Cajun.

I'd go watch Peyton's suggested Bonaparte/McNulty cage match. Ian's bigger, but Noah looks scrappy.

The whole bit attaching "Cajun" to this town is simply the flick "The Big Easy" coming back once again to bite us in the tuchus.
