Yesterday New Orleans Saint's quarterback Drew Brees returned to training camp in Houston, where he and the team are having inter-squad practices with the Texans. This after missing three days to attend memorial services for his mother, Mina Brees, who died Aug. 7 in Colorado. Brees says that this difficult time was made easier by the support of his team.
The Saints and the Texans aren't pulling any punches in their inter-squad practices. Thursday tempers came to a boil in the sweltering Houston heat. Six skirmishes erupted with the main event featuring DeMeco Ryans and (surprise surprise) Jeremy Shockey. There appears to be no-love-lost between the two teams, who have been preparing for the '09 season as well as their Saturday bout night at Reliant Stadium.
Saints' All-Pro left tackle Jammal Brown flew to Philadelphia Thursday to see sports hernia specialist, Dr. William Myers. Brown has been nursing a groin injury for most of training camp and was spotted limping noticeably during Wednesday's practice.
The extent of the injury remains undetermined, but Saints' head coach Sean Payton says Brown will not play in Saturday's upcoming preseason game against the Texans. Brown could miss significant time depending on the severity of the injury. If so, the Saints who've already lost back-up Zach Strief because of an injury to his left knee, would be in serious trouble.
