Head-Turning Business Names

Posted By on Tue, Sep 8, 2009 at 10:41 PM

I've had a thing for the names of New Orleans barbershops and beauty parlors ever since a friend of mine told me the place he went for his old reliable $7 haircut was called Luke's Tonsorial Parlor. It was on Magazine Street, across from today's Whole Foods Market.

Then there's the Godbarber on South Broad Street, with its incomparable logo.

The Elysian Field shop called In the Master's Hands is pretty good too, as far as salon names go.

But the example I noticed recently has to take the cake. Behold:

Yes, the Hair Cafe. Right there on Earhart Boulevard, on the corner of Audubon Street. I have confirmed that this is a salon, and not a cafe in the usual sense of the word. Thank goodness for that!
