Voodoo-doo

[image-1]Schedule conflicts are a necessary evil at every successful music festival. Last year, due to a jam-packed, overlapping lineup, Voodooers had to choose between TV on the Radio and Man Man, DeVotchKa and the Gutter Twins, Erykah Badu and Andre Williams, R.E.M. and Irma Thomas, and Panic at the Disco and Sharon Jones — and let me tell you, the crazy-dappin’, pierced-lip crowd had a tough call to make on that one.

This year will be no easier. Eminem and Ween, Alejandro Escovedo and the Cool Kids, George Clinton and Jello Biafra, Wolfmother and the Drive-By Truckers, the Pogues and Shooter Jennings — all either cut into or cancel out one another. The only options will be to choose wisely and live with the possibility of regret, or to station yourself in the middle of the grounds and suffer unholy mash-ups of electric country and Irish drinking songs, Southern cowpunk and howling hard rock, hardcore poetry and rambling crunk-funk, Midwest hip-hop and Latin roots rock, and jokey skit-pop and West Coast gangsta rap.
