Chef John Besh has expanded the number of restaurants under his purview from two prior to Hurricane Katrina to five, with a sixth (The American Sector) on the way.

Somewhere in there he also found the time to pen a cookbook, which was released this week.

Called "My New Orleans: The Cookbook," it includes 200 Louisiana-centric recipes, organized by the seasons, festivals and major ingredients they represent.  According to his publicist, the cookbook also "offers a history of the city and its dishes while ensuring the home cook achieves success with chef Besh’s recipes."

The book costs $45 and the chef has two local book-signing events scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 7. He'll be at the Metairie grocery store Langenstein's from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Later, from 6 p.m. to 9 pm., he'll sign books at the National World War II Museum, where The American Sector is expected to open next month.
