These iconic pop culture cliches have clogged the Internet and leaked into the real world in the form of annoyingT-shirts, books and more. Some even procured Web sites devoted solely to updating the world with news from the world of the cliche-in-question.
Ironically, the meme that survived these nostalgia-induced, pimple-faced appropriation attempts is the zombie the shuffling, brain-eating, face-rotting corpse. Sure, the 21st century fascination with all things undead may have reached its apex, but it has left a trail of acclaimed films, literature, television programming, video games, graphic novels and academia in its claim as monster-of-the-decade.
It's only fitting, then, that the aughts' final Halloween serve as a world record-breaking opportunity for a zombie gathering. More appropriate, then, is the location and raison d'etre for the New Orleans Bingo! Show's attempt: The 2009 Voodoo Experience. Here are the rules for the Oct. 31 zombie gathering:
Zombie up.
Sign in at the Bingo! sign-in station.
Gather at the Bingo! Parlour at 11 p.m. after the KISS set.
The previous record totaled 4,026 zombies. Can New Orleans make it 4,027?
