Greg Meffert: "This indecent alliance aborted journalistic objectivity"

Posted by Kevin Allman on Mon, Nov 2, 2009 at 8:05 PM

Story to follow, but Greg Meffert has issued a statement about the crime-camera jury nearly simultaneously with the return of the guilty verdict:

Statement from Greg Meffert:

Though I am relieved that the jury saw through some of this witch hunt, I'm disappointed that a majority of the jury found that I may have been liable for a small portion of the accusations, and we have a strong appeal underway. I am not giving up: the truth will win out and our significant advancements will be reinstated as the record of my service to the city I love.

This verdict and trial attest to the injustice of a politically-motivated newspaper partnering with profit-driven plaintiff lawyers. This unholy alliance destroyed my reputation and my ability to make a living for my family; clearly, the justice system can be manipulated in the name of money and politics.

The paper’s actions went beyond bad journalism in its efforts to deprive me of my civil rights. The newspaper obviously feels it is an authority higher than our legal system, even betraying the public trust, and I am forced to pursue legal recourse against them for intentional damage.

My family has suffered relentless, intentionally erroneous and mean-spirited attacks by the newspaper attempting to prejudice a jury. This indecent alliance aborted journalistic objectivity and misled our justice system.

Together as a family we will attempt to rebuild lives that have been irreparably damaged. I remain grateful and humbled by the steadfast love and support of my wife, family and many others.

That's funny. I would have thought the fact you're under a federal criminal investigation would be hampering your ability to make a living. Maybe you ask all those strippers to refund your money, Mr Family Man.

Seems like everybody's threatening libel suits these days. He may want to read New York Times v. Sullivan before he pulls the trigger on that....if he thinks he doesn't qualify as a public figure he's sadly mistaken. On top of that "erroneous" reports? Where has the TP published erroneous reports on him? Somebody needs to give him a reality slap for his own good. If he really cares about his family, the best thing he can do is cooperate with the investigation and hope for a lesser sentence. I still don't think the guy realizes what deep shite he's in.

Oh Greg, you're hilarious. First you roll into city hall and cancel all of Morial's contracts and install your own people, then you get a rep as a tech "wunderking" at the same time you create a magical system that makes everybody's historical e-mails and backups disappear, then you screw out legitimate contractors and install your own cronies in no-bid contracts, living high on the hog and the dole. And it's all a big conspiracy eh? The same publication that honored you in 40 under 40 many years ago is now out to get you through an elaborate conspiracy to taint the jury? I knew you were a weenie the first time I met you, and your wife, well, I know her well too. You both have quite a "reach around" technique.
