Georges: "I believe Jim Letten is doing an outstanding job"

Posted by Kevin Allman on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 6:21 PM

Following his statement at a Friday night forum that "we still have a Republican as a U.S. Attorney. I voted for Barack Obama, so I’d have a new U.S. Attorney. It’s not a racial thing; it’s a Democrat thing," Camp John Georges just sent out the following statement from the candidate clarifying his position:

"I believe that U.S. Attorney Jim Letten is doing an outstanding job. Friday night at the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee, I was speaking about Democratic politics. The mayor has no control over the appointment of a U.S. Attorney. I commend Jim Letten for a job well done in his fight against corruption. As mayor I will work closely with Jim Letten and all other components of the criminal justice system to weed out corruption."

Backstroke; crawfish; crabwise; u call it but methinks the man speaks without thinking. (But not without so much groveling that it made me squirm) Not another one, please. May be hanging too much with Riled up and Nagin. Look for an email sighting soon!!!

Perhaps Georges is a great businessman, but he's not a political leader. What's bizarre is he pretends we need a businessman, and not 'the typical politician.' A businessman would say about Letten, "He's done a great job so let's keep him, even if he's a Republican." Georges says: "Let's get rid of him because he's a Republican and Obama is a Democrat." Then he says, "no wait, he's doing a great job. And, anyway, I'd only be the mayor and wouldn't be able to nominate a new U.S. Attorney." Huh? If you know that the mayor has no say in who is a U.S. Attorney then don't get into that issue. And if you are going to get into the issue then approach it from a sensible point of view, not a thoughtless partisan mindset. But, either way, if you make a bold statement see if you can stick to it. Funny that Georges should feel so strongly about partisan politics now. He used to be a Republican, and as I recall dropped about 500k on the RNC and then worked the back-channels pushing to have his brother, Constantin, nominated U.S. Attorney. We don't need John Georges to be our mayor. We've already had our little experiment with the businessman who can't communicate properly. It would be nice if the next mayor had some common sense.

What you are all witnessing is a commercial grade melt down by a minor league candidate. He could be out of this race in 2 weeks. Last night, he looked and sounded horrible at the forum.

I can't wait until Senator David Vitter and the Republicans "Swift Boat" John Georges. This is the reason why I switched my party affilitation from Democrat to Independent because there are Kooks on both sides. Keep on holding up those presidential nominations Senator Vitter until we get our president to quit playing partisan politics with US Attorney appointments.

He didn't just go from "I want him gone" to "I made a mistake." Along the way, Georges also declared he was "joking." amazing
