Despite what televangelist Pat Robertson might think, the country of Haiti has suffered from a natural disaster, and needs our aid. Here are a few organizations you can donate to help the folks in Haiti.
The Jesuit Refugee Service is mounting an emergency relief effort to provide lifesaving aid, including food and other urgently needed items, to the Haitian people. Aid will be provided in partnership with the JRS - Latin America & Caribbean regional office, and distributed through JRS programs in the Dominican Republic, Jesuit parishes and other Jesuit programs in Haiti. Save the Children, or call 1-800-728-3843

Mercy Corps, or call 1-888-256-1900

Doctors Without Borders, or call 1-888-392-0392 — There are already DWB teams on the ground in Haiti, and they are treating hundreds of people injured in the quake and have been setting up clinics in tents to replace damaged medical facilities.

American Red Cross, or call 1-800-733-2767. You can also text “HAITI” to the phone number “90999” and $10 will be charged to your cell phone bill.

The world responded to New Orleans’ plight when Hurricane Katrina struck and the levees failed. It’s our turn to reach out and do whatever we can during this crisis.
