San Francisco's Shmaltz Brewing Company is introducing its two lines of beer to Louisiana. Proprietor Jeremy Cowan will present several of its beers at a tasting at the Avenue Pub (1732 St. Charles Ave.) at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 24.

From the craftbrewer's He'brews line of Chosen Beers there are Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A. (a tribute to Lenny Bruce), Messiah Bold, Origin Pomegranate Strong Ale, Rejewvenator and Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah. The Coney Island Freak Beers honor the New York City boardwalk of amusements and sideshow attractions. Some of those beers include Coney Island Lager, Mermaid Pilsner, Albino Python and Human Blockhead.

I hope the He'Brew in general has improved since I had it last. The name was unfortunately better than the beer. Plus...uhh, Schmaltz Machers...introducing this right before PASSOVER? What ARE you all thinking???

Pesach and it's dietary restrictions don't begin until next week, March 29th. There is no Jewish religous reason that I know of to stop consuming beer prior to the ban on chametz which begins with the start of Pesach.

Problem is...if it's good, we can't take it home right away! ;-)
