Left in the dark at "Wicked"? You now have options.

Last Saturday's blackout in the CBD cut short that night's performance of Wicked at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts, and since then patrons have wondered what the producers, Broadway Across America, are going to offer as a make-good. The answer cometh, but first an explanation from BAA as to the company's dilemma:

It is a testament to the huge support shown by local and regional theatergoers that tickets to WICKED have been sold out for weeks. As such, the very nature of the lack of seating inventory restricts us from fitting Saturday’s patrons into one of the tour’s remaining performances. Additionally, WICKED’s touring calendar requires the company must embark for their next engagement in Rochester, NY immediately after the final New Orleans performance at 2 PM on Sunday, April 11. Unfortunately, given these time constraints, an extra performance cannot be added for patrons during the rest of this limited-run engagement.

So: no make-up performance of Wicked. Instead, discommoded patrons who still have their ticket stubs can redeem them for one of the following -- a free show in next season's lineup, or a ticket to Wicked somewhere else on the road:

1. Patrons may receive one complimentary ticket, for each qualifying WICKED ticket held, to a performance in the 2010-2011 Season, to include CIRQUE DREAMS: Illumination, RAIN – A Tribute to the Beatles, Monty Python’s SPAMALOT, SHREK the Musical, or WEST SIDE STORY, on a first- come, first-served, subject to availability. In addition we will provide a free CD of the WICKED original cast recording;

OR

2. Patrons may make arrangements with the producers of WICKED to see any North American production of the show occurring within the next year, at no charge to the patron (there are currently productions in New York and San Francisco in addition to two North American Tours – for specific schedule information, please go to www.wickedthemusical.com). Patron to be responsible for all costs of travel and accommodations. Tickets would be provided on a space available basis (in general best availability for these exchanges is for weeknight performances). Interested patrons should contact the WICKED touring company directly by emailing: webmaster@wickedthemusical.com.

This seems an interesting solution to a insoluble situation. Were you at the show? Do you think it's fair?
