Interesting news, and certainly a great lineup of panelists:
Lieutenant Governor Mitchell J. Landrieu will moderate a roundtable discussion at this years Jazz Fest with a panel of speakers representing Louisianas rich musical culture. The goal of this gathering is to engage in a candid conversation with various musical luminaries to learn from them what makes them do what they do, what is working in the live performance and music sales industry, what could be improved upon and how to continue growing the musical cultural economy, for which Louisiana is so well known.
Participants include Terrence Simien, Irma Thomas, Terrance Blanchard, Jan Ramsey of Offbeat, James Dupre, Dr. Michael White, and Nick Spitzer.
If you want to check it out, the panel will take place on the first Friday of Jazz Fest (Apr. 23) from 1 pm-2:30 pm at the Louisiana Office of Tourism's "My Louisiana" Hospitality Area (between Congo Square and the Fais-Do-Do stage).

You had me until I saw Jan Ramsey's name. Now I can't get the smell of sulfur outta my nose. I don't understand how anyone could sit in the same room with someone who has exhibited such a consistent pattern of racial inflammation. I do not want this person involved with any discussion of our musical heritage. It creeps me out. There could have been so many other people associated with offbeat who actually get it, and don't get into the racial insensitivity of Jan Ramsey. This is like seeing a turd in a basket of diamonds. Lose the turd.
