Singer Tommy Singleton, 67, may not be a household name, but he's been singing blues, R&B and soul in New Orleans for decades, much of it in lesser known music spots, some of it in places like Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Cafe, where he sometimes joins Irving Banister's Allstars. Unfortunately, Singleton's day job was with P&J Oysters, which shutdown local operations when the BP oil disaster forced the closing of Louisiana oyster beds. There's a benefit for Singleton at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Bo-Cat's (1739 N. Claiborne Ave.) Performers include Jo Cool Davis, Roy Joseph and Sound Agenda, Rico Watts and others from the local R&B and blues scene. Ben Sandmel has more on Singleton's story here.
