A marvelous experience. We are new to NOLA. We went to Stachmo Summefest of jazz on both Saturday and Sunday - had fun and learned. New to us was the dance floor at the Old U.S. Mint building, on the third floor. We learned that not only is Jazz music something to listen to, but it also is unapologetically multimedia-esque, seemingly by definition in New Orleans. It is hearing, clapping, laughing, watching, beating to the rhythms, skipping, running. Yes, it is physical and "environmental." It is sensate, symptomatic, very visible, embodied. Nice memesis all around the floor! The mimetic and back-andforth conversational music from the young ones even - was superb, was relaxed in performance and music rendition. A sort of new aural experience for us two. We're feeling gratified at participating in the embodied beauty of the music in its physical expression. This was for us a new dimension of fullness. Thank you to all of Satchmo Summerfest and in particular to the Treme Brass Band playing at the St. Augustine Jazz Mass on Sunday and to the people of St. Augustine for the red beans and rice dinner after Mass.. All "merely" wonderful. Jim Boushay and Rickey Sain, Sr.
