The world music label Putumayo released Yoga in mid-September, a collection of music from around the world for use in yoga classes, for meditation or to relax around the house.
New Orleans yoga studio owner and musician Sean Johnson of Wild Lotus Yoga (4842 Perrier St., 899-0047; www.wildlotusyoga.com) collaborated on the album, adding his own tunes to those of musicians from India, Kenya, Costa Rica, Sweden, Senegal, Germany, France and the United States.
Putumayo produces eco-friendly CDs with folk art on the covers and extensive liner notes inside. Yoga includes a glossary of yoga terms as well as biographies of the musicians. The CDs are $14.98 and are sold in music stores, specialty stores, health food stores, at www.putumayo.com and elsewhere.
The world music label often contributes a portion of the proceeds of its CDs to nonprofit groups in the countries where the music originated. Since its founding in 1993, Putumayo has donated more than $1 million to nonprofits worldwide.
