The weather on the Northshore this weekend is forecast to be sunny with high temperatures in the mid-80s — a good time to get outside and enjoy three days of music, food, arts and crafts and more at the 28th annual Festival of the Lake in Mandeville. The festival is free and open to the public Friday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 17 at Our Lady of the Lake Church and School (316 Lafitte St., Mandeville; www.ollparish.info}.
Grammy-nominated musician Marcia Ball is the headliner. She’s scheduled to play at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Other performers include New Orleans Rhythm & Blues Company (5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday), Four Unplugged (8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday), Austin Sicard & The Medics (4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday) and Christian Serpas & Ghostown (4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday).
Local musicians will compete in a battle of the bands at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Chotin Center on the church campus.
For the first time, the festival will include a vintage car show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Before that, at 8 a.m. Saturday, there is a 5-kilometer walk/run.
Festival-goers can choose among 20 food vendors, 30 game booths and more than two dozen crafts exhibits — you can do a little early holiday shopping — as well as rides, a rock climbing wall and games appropriate for young children.
