Prospect.1.5 opens Saturday. The citywide art show is not the biannual international art show planned for 2010. That show - Prospect.2 - has been rescheduled for November 2011. Instead, P.1.5 is a placeholder, focusing on artists who were born in the New Orleans area and have moved on to careers elsewhere, as well as new artists who have moved to New Orleans. Those artists include Michael Pajon, creator of the collage above. Pajon moved to New Orleans from Chicago after he came here to work on Prospect.1. Sixteen of his pieces will be on display along with other new New Orleanians' work at Madame John's Legacy in the French Quarter. The show is titled "Fresh off the Turnip Truck" and it highlights painting, collage, video and other installation art.

Prospect.1.5 will stagger openings through the end of December. While Prospect.1 shows filled major museums and included site installations throughout the city, P.1.5 shows fill local galleries, primarily on Julia Street (Arthur Roger, Jonathan Ferrara, Lemieux and others) but also Uptown (Octavia Gallery) and in Bywater (Good Children Gallery). Besides the opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Madame John's (632 Dumaine St.), there are openings on Julia Street (Heriard-Cimino, Lemieux). Later openings will feature work by artists coming to create the works while in residence at venues in Central City.
