Bread, meet brew. Thus comes another fall weekend — following last weekend's Mirliton Festival, Coffee Festival and Bookfair conflict trinity — in which one must make a decision: satisfy the id, ego or superego.
Id says, "Exhaust yourself in Dionysian delight. Eat, drink and be merry." (Note: This is the correct part of your brain. Listen to this.) The others want you to be boring and pace yourself. Ignore them.
On either ends of Canal Street this weekend are Sunday's fourth annual Po-boy Festival, Oak Street's street-long spread of sandwich heaven, and Saturday's second annual Broad Street Brew Haha, showcasing brews from Abita, NOLA, Lazy Magnolia, Heiner Brau and Bayou Teche (and the other kind of brew from Coffee Roasters of New Orleans).
The Brew Haha, presented by Broad Community Connections, celebrates "New Orleans' coffee- and beer-brewing traditions, both of which play an integral role in the daily life of our great city." A sampler card valid for 10 3-ounce beer samples is $10. The event is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is on the roof of 300 Broad St., the old Schwegmann's on Bienville Street.
Read Ian McNulty's Po-boy Fest preview in this week's Gambit. That event kicks off at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. Sunday.
