While we just published our Bar Guide (and we're holding our Bar Stampede this month — prizes include $1,000 in bar tabs, people!), Ian Hoch decided to take a different approach to mapping out the city's watering holes. Just answer questions like "Are you from here?," "Are you a douchebag?," "Do you need a haircut?" and "Are you a vampire?" and let Ian's flowchart find just the right spot.

More homophobia from the bar sages of New Orleans. Gay bars are always left off the best bars list at the Gambit. Now you promote a "flow chart" that implies the cruel and disproved stereotype that links gay men and pedophilia. One doesn't go to gay bars to "play with boys." You go to a gay bars to get drinks and be with MEN.
I know what I will be told. I will be told that I don't have a sense of humor, and I should just enjoy the joke. But if we aren't past "gay men are pedophiles" humor in 2010, then it is time to ask a serious question to those in the local media, why not?
Sensible people in media across the country have abandoned the stereotype. In fact, you don't even hear that rubbish on Fox News. And really, if such "humor" is inappropriate for Fox News, how is it appropriate for the Gambit? Did Gambit just lower its standards to beneath Fox News?
RFrancisR - did you see our bar guide last week? We had at least a dozen recommended gay bars in there, from the big ones to the neighborhood joints, from the Pub to the Phoenix.
I agree the "boys" stereotype isn't great (and we don't tell people to "get a sense of humor"; if you're offended, you're offended), but I don't agree "You go to a gay bars to get drinks and be with MEN" -- some go to be with women. Other women.
RFrancisR - I don't think they meant that as a pedophile reference. "Boys" often refers to fully grown men, just as "girls" can refer to fully grown women.
I'm pretty sure that if a "boy" is old enough to get past the bouncers at a bar, he's well outside what would be considered pedophilia.
wow. This is so amazingly accurate it makes my head spin. I can't stop looking at it. My only qualms: missing the saint and the half-moon, both worth mentioning, and how does my favorite bar in the city - markeys - not fall under the cheap beer category at 2 dollar drafts? Phenomenal though, elsewise. Can't unsee.
@RFrancisR .... I missed that 'stereotyper' you are referring to. The fact is, as a straight man I do think there are some friendly gay bars. I can walk into one without having someone offer to push my stool in for me
