The first Saturday of the month is typically a night of new show openings at local art galleries. This weekend seems to have achieved a harmonic convergence of art openings, and particularly private collections. ArT Home New Orleans organized two weekends of self-guided home tours ( 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 4-5 & 11-12) to showcase private collections and works by emerging artists. And also new this weekend is a second round of Prospect.1.5 shows at Julia Street galleries (Arthur Roger, Heriard-Cimino, Lemieux) and Octavia Gallery. The Louisiana State Museum, in conjunction with ArT Home, is opening an antique show at the Old U.S. Mint. And both NOMA and the Ogden Museum feature private collections in ongoing shows.

The premise of the Art Home event is to encourage art collecting by inviting the public into the homes art collectors, and in many cases, the homes of artists themselves. Open homes stretch from the Global Green home in the 9th Ward to the French Quarter, Gentilly, Mid-City and Uptown. For a list of homes, see here. (Tickets are $15 per day, $25 per weekend.) Tickets also are good for entry to lectures on collecting by local curators, including Miranda Lash of NOMA (Dec. 5), Prospect New Orleans founder Dan Cameron (Dec. 11) and David Houston of the Ogden Museum (Dec 12). All talks begin at 11 a.m. at the House on Bayou Road.

NOMA features work from donations of major collections in its 100 year history. Ogden features work from two collections, the Michael Brown and Linda Green Collection and the Saratoga Collection.
