New Orleans to finally get Black Swan

Posted By on Fri, Dec 10, 2010 at 3:45 PM

For the last few weeks, us New Orleanians had to deal with the constant barrage of Black Swan — in the form of commercials, early Oscar talk, Flash feathers and Natalie Portman's face covering all our websites — but weren't able to see the film anywhere in town. But starting Friday, Dec. 17, Darren Aronofsky's high-art horror will be playing at The Theaters at Canal Place.

Aronofsky (The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream, Pi) casts Portman as a New York ballerina who unravels physically and mentally while preparing herself for the lead role in Swan Lake. The film has a score of 77 on the website Metacritic, and Portman's performance is generating a lot of Oscar buzz.

Friday screenings of the film have a good chance of selling out, but you can buy tickets now at The Theater at Canal Place's website. So get your tickets, buy an expensive Hubig's pie and enjoy the ballet horror show.
