Jazz Fest poster verdict: A resounding 'meh'

Well, we asked our Twitter followers what they thought of the official 2011 Jazz Fest poster — a young Jimmy Buffett, as painted by Garland Robinette — and the reaction, largely, mirrored the one on the Jazz Fest's own web forums: Meh.

Samples of your reactions:

More under the jump, including a 2004 Gambit article explaining the poster selection process — and a video of Garland creating this year's poster.

The worst Jazz Fest poster ever?
  • "The worst Jazz Fest poster ever"?
Here's Eileen Loh-Harrist's 2004 Gambit article about that year's Jazz Fest poster, perhaps the most controversial to date. That year's poster, featuring local son Harry Connick Jr., was produced by Paul Rogers, a California artist. Times-Picayune art critic Doug MacCash slammed it in an article titled "The Worst Jazzfest Poster Ever?".

Loh-Harrist's article is a good one to read if you've ever wondered how the festival picks its poster boy/girl and its artist.
