Republic's dress code spreads to other cities

Posted By on Thu, Mar 10, 2011 at 5:32 PM

The Warehouse District club Republic got a lot of attention last year when it posted a stern new dress code in the window: "IF IT'S ON THE JERSEY SHORE, IT'S NOT COMING THROUGH THE DOOR."

The dress code at Republic.
  • The dress code at Republic.

Normally I leave the fashion news to Missy Wilkinson and the reality-TV references to Lauren LaBorde, but even I had heard of this bold dress code ... though I'm usually slumped over a nice warm glass of Ensure and a Matlock rerun each night by the time Republic opens its doors to the bold and the beautiful.

But today I was alerted to a similar dress code at SkyBar, "Bowling Green (Ohio)'s Premier Night Club." How similar? This similar:

SkyBar, Bowling Greens Premier Night Club.
  • SkyBar, "Bowling Green's Premier Night Club."

The major differences seem to be the gilt frame and the objection to one particular designer; Republic's sign specifies "No Affliction," while SkyBar's says "No Afflicition."

Anyway, here's a screenshot from SkyBar's website:

Help Grandpa out here and I'll give you a Werther's Original. Are those wannabe gang signs? ASL for "I love you"? A jaunty Hawaiian "hang loose"? The Esperanto symbol for "Call me, baby"?.

OK, back to my Ensure.
